Jay N. Burmood, 91, of Grand Island died Friday, Aug. 5, at the Colonial Haven Home in Beemer. Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Wood River Cemetery in Wood River (additional service arrangements omitted here).
Mr. Burmood was born June 30, 1902, in Wood River to Mr. and Mrs. Louis Burmood. He attended Wood River schools and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island and a member of the Masonic Lodge at Ravenna and received the Bronze Jordan Medal. He was an electrician for the city of Grand Island for 30 years and also employed at Wells-Fargo. He was in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945 and served as chief of the Electrical Army Branch in Wellington, Del. He also holds the Nebraska record for the bungee jump in West Point in 1991, at the age of 89 years.
Survivors include one son, David Burmood of West Point, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Gaius, and two sisters, Avis and Luella
