Mrs. F. J. Morgan Passes Away
One of Wood River’s old -time and highly respected members in the person of Mr. F. J. Morgan passed away at her home in this place Monday, June 8 at 5:20 p.m., from heart trouble, aged 58 years, 8 months and 20 days. For some time past Mrs. Morgan has been in poor health but only for the past ten days was confined to her bed. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the residence, conducted by Rev. Virgil C. Wright, and internment took place in the Wood River cemetery.
Mrs. Morgan’s maiden name was Hattie L. Hanscom and she was born at Burk Hollow, VT, Oct. 8, 1855. At the age of eight she accompanied her parents to Chaska, Minn., and from there to Omaha. in 1872 the family came to Hall county and took up a homestead on the Platte bottoms south of Wood River.

Dec. 10, 1874, she was united in marriage to F. J. Morgan and of this union five children were born, one dying in infancy and four surviving, together with the husband, as follows: Chas. Morgan, Cashmere, Washington, Mrs. Moses Zehr, of Hastings, Neb., and Mrs. Ed Dreblow and Bliss Morgan of Wood River, all of whom were at the funeral except Chas. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Morgan lived on a farm south of town for ten years when they removed to Shelton where they lived ten years when they came to Wood River, in which place they have made their home ever since. In her younger days deceased was a member of the Methodist church and later affiliated with that organization. Mrs. Morgan was a devoted wife and mother and had many admirable traits of character.
