Helen V. J. Bilslend, 95, of Shelton, died Monday, April 2, 2018, at her home.
Services will be 10:3 a.m. Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River with Pastor Darrell Holzinger officiating. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Helen Viola June Bilslend was born October 19, 1922, at Wood River to Vernie and Elizabeth (Laue) Brown. Helen grew up and received her education at Wood River graduating from Wood River High School in 1939.
She married LeRoy V. Bilslend January 12, 1942. Following LeRoy’s military service, the couple made their home in Wood River where they resided their entire life.
Helen’s hobbies included crocheting, needlepoint, numerous crafts, ceramics, reading, canning, gardening & baking chocolate cakes. She always stressed the importance of family and marking sure that all were treated equally.
Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law; Stanley E. and Donna Bilslend of Wood River, NE, Elmer L. Bilslend of Tecumseh, NE, William H. and Linda Bilslend of Cozad, NE, Jerome K. and Dotty Bilslend of Shelton, NE, two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Lyle Beck of Kearney, NE and Janet K. Berry of Osceola, NE. 17 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law, Donna Brown of Omaha
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy; grandson, Brian Bilslend; five brothers, Vernon, Frank, Elmer, Joseph & Bernard Brown; four sisters, Dorothy Collver, Kathryn White, Ruby Boyll and Elizabeth Zimmerman.
