Dr. Albert “Al” Riley Abbott, 91, of Rochester, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at Charter House in Rochester.
Born Oct. 20, 1923, in Lincoln, Neb., to Roscoe and Hazel (Gooden) Abbott. He graduated from Lincoln High School and later attended the University of Nebraska where he graduated with his doctoral degree. He married Shirley “Linc” Lincoln in 1944 in Beatrice, Neb. Al completed his residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester. He worked at the McFarland Clinic in Ames, Iowa, as an anesthesiologist. He retired in 1971 on Lake Trelipe near Remer, where he with many friends built his house that his son, Roy, designed. In the early 1990s, Al and Linc moved to Charter House in Rochester.
Al enjoyed woodworking, playing the piano, gardening and reading.
He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Carolyn Abbott; grandchildren, April (RJ) Auburn and Sabra (Eric Gierzynski) Abbott; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Lincoln; and many other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, parents, sister, Barbara Hyde and his two sons, Roy and Eric Abbott.
Memorial service will be held at Charter House at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 24.
