This community was called upon to lose one of its oldest and most respected women this week, Mrs. Geo. Ballinger passing away at her home Monday, she having been in poor health for some time and critically so for the past month from a complication of diseases, aged 76 years, 4 months and 3 days. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the Methodist church conducted by Rev. H. W. Wagoner of Clarks, Nebr., in the presence of a large congregation and interment was had in the Wood River cemetery. . . Mrs. Ballinger was born near Martinsvill, Indiana, March 14, 1840, being left an orphan at three years and grew to womanhood under the kindly care of a grandmother. She was united in marriage to Geo. W. Ballinger in 1855 and of this union four children were born, John. L., Frank M. and William J. Ballinger and Mrs. Perry Burmood, all of Wood River, who together with the husband survive. . . In 1881 the family moved to Wood River locating on a farm four and a half miles east of Wood River where they ever since resided. Deceased at the age of sixteen was converted and joined the Christian church of which she remained a faithful and consistent member through life. ..
