WOOD RIVER – Mrs. Lena J. Beehler, 97, a pioneer resident of the Wood River community, died this morning in a rest home at Grand Island. She had been in failing health for several years. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Presbyterian Church at Wood River, with the Rev. Robert Sheagley officiating. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery. Visitation hours at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River will be Thursday night from 7 to 9 o’clock.

A daughter of Mitchell and Catherine Burmood, she was born March 23, 1863, at Huntsville, Ill., and came in a covered wagon to the Wood River community in 1873, when her parents took up a homestead. She had lived practically all of her live in the Wood River vicinity.

She was married to Israel N. MEAD on Dec. 4, 1884. Two children were born to them. Mr. Mead died July 13, 1902, at Wood River. She was married to George BEEHLER at Wood River. Mr. Beechler died in 1928. Mrs. Beehler was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Wood River.

Survivors include one stepson, Elmer Beehler, Sterling, Colo., five grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Katie Morgan, Mrs. C. W. Kunz and Mrs. Clara Lorenzen, all of Wood River; and one brother, Sam Burmood, Shelton. Preceding her in death were TWO SONS, two sisters and seven brothers.
