WOOD RIVER – Gladys May Camp, 90, of Wood River died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at Good Samaritan Society, Wood River.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Wood River, with the Rev. Theresa Mason officiating. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Mrs. Camp was born April 30, 1921, in Wood River to John and Anna Fay (Garrison) McAhren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Camp.
Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and a daughter-in-law, John and Jan Camp of Fort Morgan, Colo.,, and Gary ‘Gus’ Camp of Grand Island; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She grew up in Wood River and received her education there. She lived in California for a few years before moving back to Wood River, where she worked for a glove factory in Grand Island and also for the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant in Alda.
She was united in marriage to Ben Camp on Sept. 10, 1953, in Wood River. The couple lived their entire married lives in Wood River, where they farmed before retirement in 1978. Mr. Camp died on Dec. 4, 2003.
She enjoyed golfing and especially being with her family. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wood River, the Wood River Country Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was also preceded in death by seven brothers, Elwin McAhren, Jay McAhren, Sam McAhren, John McAhren, Bill McAhren, James McAhren and Howard McAhren, and two sisters, Adele Beyer and Agnes Swieger.
