Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Duncan, 84, of Grand Island died Monday, June 7, 2010, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha with her family by her side. 

Betty was born April 9, 1926, at Archer to Leonard and Vera (Woodward) VanPelt.

Survivors are: sons and daughters-in-law, Kim and Connie Duncan and Greg and Roxana Duncan, all of Grand Island; daughters and son-in-law, Dorene and Bud Cravener of Bailey, Colo., Renae Feldt of O’Neill, Vicki Gewecke of Grand Island, Tamie Duncan and fiance, Stuart McDonald of O’Neill and Melody Steele of Grand Island; brothers, Dewitt VanPelt of Clarks, Dwaine VanPelt of Archer, Roger VanPelt of Dannebrog and Steve VanPelt of Archer; and sisters, Rhoda Seiland of Axtell, Charlene Riese of Grand Island, Nora Linder of Archer and Judy Anderson of Axtell; grandchildren, David, Stephanie, Jim, Debbie, Scott, Beth, Shane, Aaron, Ryan, Jenessa and Kacey; six great-grandchildren and sister-in-law, Virginia Gosda of Grand Island.

Her husband, L. Myron Duncan; parents and grandchildren, Jamie and Kirk welcomed her into heaven.

Betty was raised on a family farm near Archer graduating from Archer High School. She received her teachers’ certificate. 

On Jan. 26, 1949, she married L. Myron Duncan. 

Following their marriage, they farmed near Wood River and throughout their life lived in the Grand Island area. 

Betty taught school until staying home to take care of her family. Later she went to work for Head Start for 25 years, then Grace Lutheran Pre School. She had a love for teaching children and will be remembered by many.

Memberships include Trinity United Methodist Church having taught Sunday school, Eagles Auxiliary, Platt-Duetsche ladies and the Rebecca’s. 

She loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many.
