Wood River, Neb., Mar. 19. (Special)–In the death of Peter Holling, 87, which occurred about 7 o’clock Friday evening at his home in Wood River, Hall county loses one of its early settlers and substantial citizens. Mr. Holling was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, on August 10, 1844. In 1869 he came to America, locating at Clinton, Iowa. The following year he took up a pre-emption claim near Grand Island, Neb., and in 1873 re-located southeast of Wood River, residing there until 1920 when he retired and moved to Wood River, his present home. Of an industrious nature, he accumulated considerable land holdings and was reputedly one of the wealthiest residents of this section of the county.

On July 2, 1875, he married Miss Anna Sievers, to which union were born seven children. Surviving children are three sons, Emil and Gus, of Wood River; John, of Washington, D. C., and three daughters, Mrs. Herman Luebs, Hattie and Elvena, of Wood River. One son passed away in 1881. Funeral services will be held from the home here at two o’clock Monday afternoon with burial in the Wood River cemetery
