Donald James Jensen, 88, of Grand Island, passed away on June 8, 2013 at Golden Living Center – Park Place in Grand Island.
Graveside services will be Tuesday, June 11, 2013, at 10:30am at the Wood River, NE cemetery. The Reverend Jay Vetter will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Don was born October 19, 1924 in Norman, NE to James H. and Anna (Peterson) Jensen.
He grew to manhood in the Norman, Upland, and Minden area.
He married Bethel Parks on November 10, 1950 at the Presbyterian Church in Wood River. Seven children were born to them, raising them in various central Nebraska communities.
Bethel preceded him in death on June 20, 2005.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-laws, Joyce and Larry Bridger of Hastings and Lora and Bob Whitted of Decatur, Texas; and four sons and daughters-in-law: Marvin of Boelus, John and Bobbi of Seymour, Missouri, Steve and Deb of Lincoln and Bill and Lorraine of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a sister, Doris Wilcox of Lincoln and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Don worked in various agricultural positions, before joining the Nebraska State Highway Department where he retired in 1985.
In retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at the Grand Generation Center, the Salvation Army, his church, helping friends and neighbors and gardening.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother, Ruby, one sister, Evelyn, one brother-in-law, Ray Wilcox, one son, Timothy and one grandson, Jeremy.
