Mrs. Albert LaPoint Goes to Her Reward
Mrs. Mary E. LaPoint, wife of Albert Lapoint, passed away at her home in Wood River, Friday, Oct. 26, after a lingering illness of some six months from cancer, aged 60 years, 3 months and six days. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at two o’clock in the presence of a good sized congregation, despite the storm, Rev. A. Foreman officiating, he preaching an able and very comforting sermon. The floral offerings were very beautiful. Interment was had in the Wood River cemetery, E. Kunz, Jesse Burkerd, Geo. B. Burmood, E. T. Rounds, William Coomes and Samuel MacMurray, being the pallbearers.
Mrs. LaPoint was born at Sterling, Ill., July 20, 1857, where she grew to womanhood and where she was married to Albert LaPoint, Dec. 10, 1879. Of this union one son, William H., was born, of Portland, Oregon, who together with the husband survive. She also leaves an aged father, Wm. Curtis of Scotts Bluff, Nebr., a brother, Edward L. Curtis of Morrison, Ill., and a sister, Mrs. C. A. Mitchell of Lexington, Nebr. Deceased came with her husband to Wood River in 1892 where they have ever since made their home. Mrs. LaPoint was a charter member of the Loyal Mystic Lodge and for the past five years was secretary of that order. She united with the Methodist church of Wood River in 1905 and died in the faith of her Lord. She was ever a faithful and loving wife and mother, a kind neighbor and friend and was given to many acts of benevolence and charity.
Among others attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Mitchell, Mr. and Mrs. Dodd, Mrs. John McAuley, and the Misses Allen and Henning of Grand Island.
