Obituary
Wood River, Neb., Feb. 5 – William W. Mitchell was born May 2, 1846 at Muskingum county, Ohio, and died at Santa Monica, Cal., January 27, 1923, at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 25 days. He was united in marriage with Katherine Morrison on September 13, 1866, at Allegen, Mich. To this union were born eight children, all of whom survive him except one daughter who died in infancy. Besides his bereaved widow, he is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Allen, Mrs. Carrie Gormley, Mollie and Bessie Mitchell, all of Omaha; Mrs. Anna Hollister of Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. Ollie Murphy, of Portland, Ore.; one son, Charles, of Arthur, Neb.; three brothers, Thomas O., of Whitewood, S. Dak.; Henry of Greenfield, Ind., and Marion, of Sturgis, S. Dak.; and three sisters, Mrs. Melissa Wisecarver, of Columbus, O.; Mrs. Amanda Sprague, of Otseto, O.; and Mrs. Fred Babel, of Grand Island.

Mr. Mitchell enlisted in the army at the age of 19 years and served his country for four years. He came to Nebraska in 1871, locating at Alda, at which place he resided until 1890. He then moved to Wood River, being engaged there in the same business which he conducted at Alda, that of buying grain and running a general store. In 1909 he retired from active business at Wood River and with his family moved to Omaha where the family has since resided. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell were spending the winter in California when he was stricken with an illness which proved fatal. . . He was a member of Cement lodge No. 211, A. F. & A. M. which had charge of the funeral services which were conducted from the First Presbyterian church in Wood River Saturday afternoon.
