Rollin O. Packer, 72, of Wood River died Sunday, March 24, 2013, peacefully in his sleep at his home in Wood River.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Wood River, with Pastor Brad Jepsen officiating.
Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Mr. Packer was born Jan. 17, 1941, in Wood River to Otho and Rosa J. (Opp) Packer.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Joyce Packer of Wood River; two daughters and sons-in-law, Leann J. and Jim Gotchall of O’Neill, Joann K. and Tom Hulme Jr. of Shelton; one son and daughter in law, Brian and Stacy Packer of Wood River; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; one brother and sister-in-law. Jerome and Nancy Packer of Wood River; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Carolyn Olson of Holdrege, Barbara and Dale Herter of Gibbon.
Rollin received his education and grew to manhood in Wood River, graduating from Wood River High School with the class of 1958.
He was united in marriage to Joyce Dobberstein on Sept. 25, 1960, in Wood River at First Presbyterian Church.
The couple made their home in Wood River, where they farmed and grew potatoes for 48 years.
He committed his life to Christ on Christmas Day 1975.
He lived his entire life in Wood River.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Wood River and Gideon’s International.
He enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, teaching his grandchildren to fish, and especially spending time with this family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otho and Rosa Packer.
