WHEATLAND, Mo. — Albert Schultz, 98, of Wheatland, Mo., formerly of Wood River, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at Hermitage Nursing and Rehab in Hermitage, Mo.

Albert was born July 19, 1919, at Wood River to Otto and Lydia (Huebner) Schultz.

Albert worked at Stuhr Museum in the tin shop. He moved to Missouri in 2006 to be near his son.

His wishes were for cremation. Memorial services will be at a later date in Wood River.

Albert was born July 19, 1918, in Wood River, Neb., to parents Otto and Lydia Schultz. In 1936, Albert and his parents left Nebraska to move to California. Albert worked as a baker from 1936 to 1941. Albert was married to Margaret Ream in 1940, until her death in April of 1959. In that marriage, they had two daughters, Shirley Souther and Janet.

From March of 1943 to January of 1946, Albert served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborn # 502 Regiment. He received six medals, including the Bronze Star medal. He started his own auto mechanics business called Al Schultz’s Garage in 1951.

In August of 1960, he married Wilhelmina Romyn. In 1981, Albert and Mena left California and returned to Wood River, Neb. They worked at Bullet Weights in Alda in the mid-80’s. From 1996-2005, Albert worked at the Stuhr Museum in the tinsmith shop. In August of 2002, he lost his wife Mena. In 2006, Albert sold his home in Wood River and moved to Wheatland, Mo. Albert entered the Hermitage Nursing Home on Feb. 3, 2017, and passed away in his sleep there on Feb. 28.

In his memory, he left behind two daughters, Shirley Souther and Janet Bennett, a stepdaughter Patricia Plouffe, and a stepson Paul Cain (deceased 1-23-2018), four stepgrandchildren and eight stepgreat-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Lydia, and wives, Margaret and 
Mena.
