Mrs. Josephine Smout, a resident of Hall county for half a century, passed away at her home, 1421 West First street, about noon Tuesday at the age of 74 years. Mrs. Smout was injured in a fall about three years ago from which she never fully recovered. She was, however, able to be about her home and not until last week did her condition become serious. A complication of ailments resulting from her injuries was the cause of death. Mrs. Smout had been a resident of Grand Island for about three years, coming here from Wood River at which place the family had resided since 1870. Surviving here is a daughter, Clara, residing at home. Her husband preceded her in death just fourteen years ago on July 3, 1908. Funeral services wee held from the residence at 9 a.m. Thursday, Rev. Selcer, of the St. Stephen’s Episcopal church, officiating. Interment will take place in the Wood River cemetery.
