Joel “Jody” Struebing, 74, of Colorado Springs, Colo., passed away on July 21, 2018.
Services will be held at a later date in Wood River.
He was born in St. Edward on April 2, 1944, to Joseph and Shirley Struebing. He was the oldest of four children.
Jody spent his early years growing up on a farm south of Wood River, and later, for a short time, lived in Grand Island. He then moved to Crookston Minn., with his parents and his brother Jack. Jody attended and graduated from Crookston High School.
Jody then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and spent considerable time in Vietnam. He also was stationed at other various locations that included Minot, N.D., Woomera, Australia, Offutt Air Force Base and the Nevada Test Range. While stationed in Minot, N.D., he met and married Marlene Warner on Aug. 21, 1971.
Jody retired after 20-plus years in the Air Force, and later as part of his continuing education efforts he received a BS in computer science from Colorado Technical University. Jody then worked for various defense contractors in both California and Colorado, finally settling and establishing a home in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Jody was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Fountain and had a passion for family, cooking and laughing. Jody loved a good party!
He is survived by children, Jeremy Struebing, Tamara (Shane) Atkin, Cheri (Dave) Bales, Buster (Linda) Warner, Sandy Schalesky and Keven Warner; grandchildren, Misty (Matt) Connor, Jennifer (Heath) Leach, Kris (Amy) Schalesky, Kelsey Atkin and Karley Atkin; 10 great-grandchildren; a niece, Hannah Struebing, and a nephew, Michael (Stefanie) Struebing; brothers, Kim (Lynn) Struebing and Gail Struebing; aunts, Betty Williams and Neva Knerl; and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Arthur Struebing; a son-in-law, Rickie Dennis Schalesky; his mother, Shirley May Titus Struebing; and his father, Joseph Herman Struebing.
