Death of Charles Vedder

Aged Resident Passes Away at Home of Sister, Mrs. James Bly.

Charles Vedder, who has been making his home with his sister, Mrs. James Bly, in Shelton for the past five years, died Tuesday night at the Bly home from dropsy, which disease he had been suffering with for several weeks.

Mr. Vedder was born at Rutland, Jefferson county, New York, on November 16, 1835, and at the time of his death was 77 years, 2 months and 12 days of age. About ten years ago he came to this vicinity with his mother and his sister, taking up residence on a farm southeast of Shelton, where the mother died a year later. He had always lived with his mother and her death was a great loss to him.

About five years ago Mr. and Mrs. James Bly moved to Shelton and Mr. Vedder came with them to make his home with his sister. Since coming to Shelton Mr. Vedder has formed a large acquaintance in this vicinity and has a large circle of friends who will regret to learn of his death.

The funeral services were held at the home yesterday afternoon at one o’clock and were conducted by Rev. J. R. Martin, pastor of the Methodist church of Shelton. Interment was made in the Wood River cemetery.
