Richard L. “Dick” Burmood, 85, of Omaha, formerly of Kearney, died Thursday, December 14, 2016 at Parsons Home in Omaha.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, December 21st at Wood River Cemetery. The Rev. Melody Adams will officiate. According to his wishes Mr. Burmood was cremated. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is serving the family.
Richard Lee Burmood was born on December 7, 1931 in Wood River, Nebraska to Raymond O. and Viola Belle (Jonas) Burmood. He grew up in Wood River and graduated from Wood River High School in 1949. Following high school, he attended trade school in Milford, NE.
Dick entered the United States Navy on March 19, 1951 and bravely served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged on March 8, 1955.
Following his discharge, he worked as a steamfitter for the Steamfitters and Plumbers Union #464. He retired in November of 1993.
On November 24, 1990 Dick was united in marriage to JoAnn L. Hansen in Kearney, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Omaha until returning to Kearney in 1994. They later moved back to Omaha where they remained.
Dick was a past member of Kearney Evangelical Free Church and First United Methodist Church of Kearney. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW and Good Sam Travel Club. In retirement years Dick enjoyed traveling, fishing and woodworking.
He is survived by two sons, Eddy L. Burmood and wife Brenda of Hastings and Richard J. Burmood and wife Melissa of Waverly; two daughters, Deborah M. Prouty and husband Mike of Poulsbo, WA and Carolyn V. McConnell and husband Curt of Denton; seven grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a sister and a grandson, Christopher Burmood.
