Lloyd R. Mead, 92 of Kearney passed away Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Neb.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 4, 2026, at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment will be held at the Wood River Cemetery with military honors provided by the Gibbon/Shelton American Legion Post #310 in conjunction with the Nebraska National Guard Funeral Honors Team. A reception at the Wood River Community Center will follow the burial.

Lloyd Ronald Mead, born March 21, 1934, near Wood River, Neb., passed away surrounded by family. The oldest of seven children, Lloyd grew up helping on the farm and in his father’s blacksmith shop. He was a 1952 graduate of Wood River Rural High School and U.S. Army veteran. In 1957, he married Marlene Forst, and together they raised three children, Kalvin, Kindra, and Kenny. Lloyd primarily worked in farming and black smithing and retired from the Kearney Eaton Corporation in 1994. He also raised Black Angus cattle for many years. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling and attending country music festivals.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and several loved ones. He is survived by Marlene; his children, Kalvin, Kindra, and Kenny; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
