Kenneth William “Kenny” Bushhousen, 71, of Grand Island died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at his home.
Memorial graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wood River Cemetery, Wood River, with the Rev. Scott Friesen officiating. Apfel Funeral Home is caring for the family.
Mr. Bushhousen was born Nov. 24, 1941, in Ravenna to Arthur and Mary (Gehring) Bushhousen.
Survivors of the immediate family include his wife, Joan Bushhousen of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jolene and Carlos Campos of Jacksonville, Fla., Gloria and Morgan Sleeper of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Shayla Bushhousen of Lincoln, Brad and Lana Bushhousen of St. Libory; and two sisters, Amy Jo Sherman of Alda and Rita Minyard of Quinton, Okla.
Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Carlos, Alicia, Cristina, Christopher, Trew, Chase, Tara, Sydney, Brook and Bo, ten great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Dominic, Eliana, Alyssa, Erin, Travis, Bryce, Kylie, Aleah and Landyn.
He grew up and attended country school at Schauppsville and Wood River. As a teenager, he worked for area farmers around the Wood River area. He was united in marriage to Joan Guy on Aug. 16, 1961, in Minden. The couple made their home in Grand Island, where Kenny was a self-employed contractor and later moved to Dannebrog where he was employed at Platte River by Products from 1983 until his retirement in 2005.
He loved spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed time with his brother, Terry, the last two years sorting steel and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Allard, Gordon and Terry Bushhousen; two brothers-in-law, Jim Minyard and Ronald Sherman.
