John J. Carter Sr., 82, of Wood River died early this morning in a local hospital. He had been a medical patient here since Saturday night. Funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian church at Wood River at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon. The Rev. Keith Delap will officiate. Burial will be in Wood River cemetery with Masonic services at the graveside.
Born Mar. 16, 1867, Mr. Carter had followed his trade as a flour miller in Ashland, Heborn, Clay Center and Ansley. He moved to Wood River where he had since resided since 1904. His marriage to Miss Carrie Belle Ayers took place at Hebron July 29, 1891. The couple had eight children. Survivors include three sons, Walter of Grand Island and Hugo and John Jr. of Wood River, and three daughters, Mrs. Jessie Paulk, Wood River, Mrs. Helen Anderson, Omaha, and Mrs. Grace Danaher, Long Beach, Calif. His wife died Sept. 15, 1949, and two children died in infancy. The Apfel funeral home at Wood River has charge of funeral arrangements.
