George Davis, 85, of Wood River died Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
George was born Dec. 21, 1925, in Palmer to Benjamin and Anna (Novotny) Davis.
George was preceded in death by wife, Jo Ann, and daughter, Sandy Bucy Davis.
Survivors are: daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tim Eurek of Farwell; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives.
George grew up in Palmer and graduated from Palmer High School. He was a star football player in high school.
He entered the U.S Navy on Feb. 6, 1943 and was honorably discharged on Nov. 29, 1946.
He was united in marriage to Jo Ann L. Carson on Oct. 21, 1950, in Palmer.
They moved to Wood River in 1962. Jo Ann preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 1988.
George was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wood River. He was a past member of the American Legion Club.
He was an umpire at the Wood River ball field for many years.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting. His greatest enjoyment in life was his grandchildren.
George was also preceded in death by his brothers, Harry, Frank, Jim, William and Albert; and sisters, Elizabeth, Margaret, Dorothy, Marcella and Joan.
