Funeral Services Will Be Held Tuesday Afternoon at Wood River
John Myler Duncan pioneer farmer of the Wood River community died Saturday afternoon in a local hospital after a month’s illness. He was 81 years old. Mr. Duncan was born in Adamsville Pa. Sept 4, 1859, son of David and Sarah Ann Duncan. At the age of 20, he left Pennsylvania and came to Nebraska settling on the Wood River farm where he lived for more than 60 years. He was married to Ida L. Pierpont Apr 26, 1888. Surviving are the widow and four children: Miss Elsie Duncan of Alliance, Mrs. Merrill L. Lewis of Grand Island, Mrs. Harry E. Hillyer of Wood River, and Myron J. Duncan of Wood River: also, six grandchildren and a niece, Mrs. Olive Stear of Conneaut Lake Pa. Two sisters and a half-brother had preceded him in death. Mr. Duncan was baptized in the Presbyterian faith as a boy. In his 60 years at Wood River, he had gained a wide and favorable acquaintance throughout this entire section of the state. Until a month ago, he had scarcely known a day’s illness. Funeral services will be held at the Heeren funeral home in Wood River at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon.
