Roy M. Lewton, 68, a resident of the Nebraska Veterans Home, died Thursday. Services are pending at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Mr. Lewton was born June 3, 1913, in Hall County near Alda, the son of Clyde and Ada Strawn Lewton. He received his education in rural Hall county schools and was a 1931 graduate of Alda High School. He then moved to Dallas, Texas. In 1941 he joined the U.S. Army, serving in the South Pacific in the Medical Corps. He was discharged in 1945. He worked in various veterans hospitals in the southern states and returned to Grand Island in 1951, working at the VA Medical Center here. Later he returned to Dallas. Failing health forced his retirement. In 1975 he moved back to Grand Island and moved to the Veterans Home. He was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. posts in Grand Island.
Survivors include a son, David of Gilmer, Texas; a daughter, Leslie Ann Shelton of Dallas, Texas, four grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Al (Grace) Hehnke and Mrs. Helen Ditter, both of Grand Island. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Bess, and three brothers.
