Daughter of Clarence & Mary (Hansen) Lux.
Gladys Marie Lux was born near Chapman, Nebraska. She graduated from Wood River High School and took her formal art education at Kearney State College. She received bachelor and masters degrees from the University of Nebraska and further training at the Chicago Art Institute. She taught art at Nebraska Wesleyan University from 1927 to 1967 and was head of the Art Department for
many years. Lux’s work was featured in local and regional venues including the Joslyn Art Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, Rockefeller Center in New York City and the 1939 New York World’s Fair. She donated the historic building which now houses the Lux Center for the Arts in Lincoln, Nebraska.
