Chris Ellis Meyer, 58, of Wood River died Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River, with the Rev. James Fandrey officiating.
Burial will be in Wood River Cemetery.
Mr. Meyer was born Sept. 25, 1957, in St. Paul, the son of Vernon Oliver and Marilyn Ruth (Brittenham) Meyer.
He grew up in Wood River, graduating from Wood River High School with the class of 1975. He attended the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, where he was a member of the University of Nebraska Marching Band in the trumpet section.
He entered the United States Marine Corp on Jan. 14, 1980, serving in Japan, Okinawa Island and the Philippines. He was stationed at Cherry Point, N.C., before he was honorably discharged Jan. 13, 1984. He then returned to Wood River, where he held various jobs.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, American Legion and DAV.
He enjoyed music and painting.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Marilyn Meyer of Wood River; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Randy Allen Meyer of Lincoln, Craig Robert and Sharon Meyer of Phoenix, Ariz.; nieces and nephews, John and Melissa Diebel, Robert and Susie Meyer, Matthew Meyer, Kyle and Elizabeth Meredith, Mark and Michelle Hanson, Shawn and Amanda Hanquist, and Gabriel Meyer; great-nephews and great-nieces, Hunter and Hudson, Andrew and Jackson, Mason and Madison, Hailey and Mikayla; aunts and uncles, Clayton and Nancy Meyer of Grand Island, Jim Brittenham, Lee Brittenham and Norma Cummings, all of Oklahoma; along with numerous cousins and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon; nephew, Keith Falldorf; and grandparents, Fred and Sophie Meyer, Ellis and Gladys Brittenham.
