Francis Arnold Becker, 74, of Wood River died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2016, at Golden Living Center, Park Place in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wood River United Methodist Church in Wood River, with the Rev. Phil Sloat officiating. Burial will be in Wood River Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Francis A. Becker was born Oct. 29, 1941, in Wood River, the son of Arnold and Kathryn (Henderson) Becker. He grew up in the Giltner/Wood River area, graduating with the class of 1961 from Wood River High School. He graduated from Nebraska Vocational Technical School in Milford with a degree in Building Construction Technology in 1963.
He was united in marriage to Jerilyn Joye Pollock on Nov. 2, 1963, in Grand Island. The couple made their home in the Wood River, Cairo and Rockville area, where he was employed at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant, Monforts and later as a self-employed carpenter.
He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, the NRA and North American Hunting Club and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, pouring lead weights and reloading shells. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish his memory include his mother, Kathryn Layher of Wood River; son and daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Pam Becker of Rockville; two daughters and son-in-law, Kianne and Steve Lamb of Doniphan and Janeen Edwards of Wood River; grandchildren, Derrick (Kelsi) Becker, Darcy Allard (Cory Gilmore), Mark Lamb, William Becker, Michael Lamb, Austin Edwards, Matthew Lamb and Alex Glasenapp; great-grandchildren, Alise, Jaycee, Olivia, Jesse and Jax; brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Betty Becker of Phillips; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold; stepfather, Sherman Layher; and brother, Dale Layher.
