WOOD RIVER – Carl M. Nelson, 51, a former Wood River resident, died Monday at Grand Junction, Colo., after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Wood River Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery. Friends may call …at the Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River.
Mr. Nelson was born Sept. 5, 1907, near Chappell. He and June Whipple were married Sept. 22, 1928?. They farmed in the Chappell area for a year, then moved to Wood River where Mr. Nelson was employed by the Union Pacific Railroad until 1945. They then returned to the farm and remained there until last February when they moved to Grand Junction where Mr. Nelson was a carpenter.
Surviving are his wife: five children, Merle of Kearney, Roger, with the Marines at San Diego, Calif., and Carl Jr., Joy Lou and James, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Charistina Belgum, Albion, and Mrs. Anna Jewell of Wyoming; two brothers, Pete and Henry both of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter and four brothers.
