Rosa J. (Opp) Packer, 97, of rural Wood River died Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at her home. Rosa was born Sept. 8, 1914, in rural Wood River the daughter of Frank and Elizabeth (Huebner) Opp.
Rosa was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Otho Z. Packer.
Rosa grew up on the family farm and received her education at rural district 44 and Shauppsville, graduating from Wood River High School with the class of 1932.
Rosa was united in marriage to Otho Z. Packer on Sept. 23, 1936. The couple lived and raised their family in the rural Wood River area. She worked with her husband on their farm and later was employed at the Cornhusker Ordinance Plant, the Packer Potato Company and Gibbon True Value.
Her family, gardening and flowers were her joys. She was a life long member of St. Pauls English Lutheran Church of Grand Island.
Survivors are: daughters and son-in-law, Barbara and Dale Herter of Gibbon, NE., Carolyn Olson of Elm Creek, NE.; sons and daughters-in-law, Rollin and Joyce Packer and Jerome and Nancy Packer, all of Wood River, NE.; 12 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Jean Schrock of Alda, NE..
Rosa was also preceded in death by: parents, four brothers, one grandson and one great-grandson.
Burial was in the Wood River Cemetery, Wood River, NE.
