WOOD RIVER – Connie Jo Reeder, 65, of Wood River died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, due to complications from leukemia.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island, with Pastor Brad Jepsen officiating. Inurnment will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Mrs. Reeder was born March 6, 1947, at Lexington to Virgil Carl and Delia Elizabeth (Carpenter) McElhinny.
Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Richard Reeder of Wood River; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Jennifer Reeder of Wood River; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Tim Puncochar of Grand Island; one brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Deb McElhinny of Kearney; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Nancy and Eldon Muehling of Lincoln, Carol and Don Thomas of Raymond, and Alyce Bauer of Overton.
Also surviving include six grandchildren, Dexter Puncochar, Garret Reeder, Chelsea Puncochar, Dustin Reeder, Sheridan Puncochar and Lexi Jo Puncochar.
She grew up in Overton, where she attended the elementary country school, graduating from Overton High School with the class of 1965. After graduation, she began her employment with the University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture at Curtis as the first secretary.
She was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Reeder on June 12, 1966, at Overton. The couple lived in Kentucky and Alabama while Dick served in the armed forces. They moved to Wood River in 1970, where Connie started working for Thelen Grain Company in 1971 and had been with the company up until the time of her death.
She enjoyed bowling, fishing, spending time at Harlan County Reservoir, as well as crocheting and embroidering. Connie’s greatest enjoyment came from spending time with her grandchildren and taking in their activities.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Patsy and brother in law, Roger Bauer.
