Wood River–Leo C.Rickert, 78, of Wood River died Wednesday, Jan. 5, at St. Francis Medical Center. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church with the Rev. Randal Ehrichs officiating. Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Apfel Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the church, Wood River RescueUnit or the donor’s choice. Mr. Rickert was born March 19, 1915, at Wood River to Charles and Nora (Leonard) Rickert. He received his education at District 32 School. He married Viola Monthey March 23, 1943, at Wood River. The couple lived northwest of Wood River before they moved southwest of Wood River in 1959, where Mr. Rickert farmed and raised livestock until retiring in 1977. Mrs. Rickert and a son, Gary, died in an automobile accident in 1965. He was member of Grace Lutheran Church in Wood River, the Eagles Club and the Platt-Duetsche Society in Grand Island. He is survived by one son, Terry of Wood RIver; two daughters, Jeanine Gewecke of Alda and Ronda Ferebee of Oak; three sisters, Viola Moss and Marjorie Bredeson, both of Wood River, and Darlene Lahyer of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, an infant daughter and a brother.
