Alice Uhrich, 92, of Wood River died on Friday, May 19, 2017, at Good Samaritan Society-Wood River.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Wood River with Pastor Brad Jepsen officiating.
Burial will be in the Wood River Cemetery.
Alice was born on Aug. 12, 1924, at Wood River to John Sr. and Mary (Carstensen) Layher.
She grew up in Wood River, attending District 24 School and graduating from Wood River High School in 1941.
After high school, Alice worked at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant during World War II. Working there, she met Elmer Uhrich.
Alice and Elmer were married on Nov. 21, 1945, in Grand Island.
They lived in the Wood River area and moved to their current home just east of Wood River in 1959.
Alice again went to work at the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant during the Vietnam War. After the war, she worked at Rockwell in Kearney before her retirement.
Alice attended the Cameron Church as a child and then the Wood River Presbyterian Church.
Alice enjoyed gardening and raising flowers and canning vegetables. She also enjoyed her cats as she never would turn away a stray, but most of all, she enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren.
Alice is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Sue Uhrich of Shelton and Don and Kathy Uhrich of Wood River; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John Layher Jr., Frank Layher and Lester Layher; and sisters, Helen Knick, Elsie Flannery and Ruth Engel.
