Robert W. “Bob” Waters, 85, of Grand Island, formerly of Wood River, died on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Wood River Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Piontkowski will officiate.
To honor Mr. Waters’ wishes, his body was cremated.
He was born on June 13, 1929, in New London, Iowa, to Mark and Lillian (Scott) Waters.
He married Mary Heminger-Saunders in Memphis, Mo. She preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Jeanie.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Rex and Deb Saunders of Marengo, Iowa, and Ray and Rae Ann Saunders of Grand Island; two daughters and sons-in-law, Reva and Jim O’Brien of Grand Island and Twyla and Mel Baker of Omaha; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; four brothers John Waters, Lee Waters and Lewis Waters, all of California, and Don Waters of Iowa; and one sister, Mary Jean Francisco of California.
He grew up in southeastern Iowa.
He entered the U.S. Air Force in August 1947 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in February 1954.
After their marriage Bob and Mary lived in Iowa and later settled in Nebraska.
He was a farmer and a truck driver.
In addition to his wife and daughter, he was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson and one great-grandson.
