Lena Westman
WOOD RIVER – Lena Westman, 77, of Wood River, died Saturday morning at a Wood River nursing home. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Apfel Funeral Home in Wood River, with Rev. Nancy Kaye Skinner officiated.
Burial will be in Wood River Cemetery, and visitation will be Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial are suggested to the church, the Good Samaritan Nursing Home or the Wood River Cemetery.
Mrs. Westman was born March 13, 1908 at Wood River, to Lewis and Phyllis Young Wilson. She was educated at Wood River and on May 4, 1929 she married Harold Westman at Kimball. The couple lived in Wyoming and Colorado before moving to Wood River in 1942.
She taught school in the Wood River area from 1944-1972, and was a resident of the Wood River nursing home since 1980.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, and the Rebeccas; Royal Neighbors and the Nebraska Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by one son, Lewis of Kearney; one daughter, Mrs. Lester (Larita) DeBrie of Greenwood; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Walter of Arvada, Colo. and Ben of Alhambra, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Dela Wade of Escondido, Calf. and Rosalie Best of Emmett, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and an infant daughter, one brother, and one sister.
