Elaine Bohnart, 85, of Kearney, died Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Mt. Carmel Home Keens Memorial. A memorial mass service will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney. Interment will be at the Wood River Cemetery. O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Marian Elaine Bohnart was born July 30, 1929 in Wood River, Nebraska to Benjamin and Etta (Wiese) Taylor. Elaine graduated from Wood River High School in 1949. On September 28, 1949 she was united in marriage to Walter L. Bohnart in Wood River, NE. The couple farmed in the Wood River area. The marriage ended in divorce in 1966. Elaine was the owner and operator of Elaine’s Sundries for many years. She later worked at the Army Ammunition Plant in Alda, NE and Rockwell. She enjoyed ceramics, watching movies, especially Musicals, and spending time with her family. Elaine will be remembered for her smile, quick wit and feistiness. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church and was a past member of the Grand Island Eagle’s Club.
Survivors include her daughters, Kathy Schmitt and husband, Dwaine of Kearney, Pam Bohnart and husband, Tom of Fremont; sons, Ron Bohnart of Lincoln, Jerry Bohnart and wife, Barb of Lee Summit, MO; grandchildren, Chris (Ali) Tierney, Destiny (Ryan) Hurst, Shilo (Jeff) Oberg, Seth (Nicki) Bohnart, Heather (Josh) Suelflow, Justice (Rosie) Bohnart, Lyndsey Finney, Tabitha (Steve) Tierney, Heidi Matson, Tiffany Tierney; 16 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; son, Chadd Bruner; 3 brothers and 4 sisters.
